Founded in 1981 in the UK with a mission to design wind turbines, RES (Renewable Energy Systems) has operated for more than 40 years. Today, it stands as the world’s largest independent renewable energy company, having delivered over 28 GW of projects to a global customer base, and aiming to add another 22 GW within the next five years.

The company’s activities span the entire renewable energy lifecycle - from development and construction to asset management and operations & maintenance - with a portfolio covering onshore and offshore wind, solar, energy storage, green hydrogen, and transmission and distribution infrastructure.

Building on this foundation, RES now supports the development and management of 43 GW of operational assets across 1,300 sites worldwide. Its full suite of services, including digital products, is contributing to enhancing operational performance and asset customer value. RES has also recently expanded its capabilities through acquisitions of specialist service businesses, strengthening its offer with high-quality, profit-focused solutions such as drone-based site inspections and blade repair.

Through strategic acquisitions and a strong culture of innovation, RES stands out with a clear mission: to power a clean energy future in which everyone has access to affordable, carbon-free energy.

APQP4Wind: A strategic choice

RES began its APQP4Wind journey in late 2024 as part of a strategic effort to enhance consistency, reduce execution costs, and embed quality more deeply across its global operations. With a clear focus on structured quality management, the company has adopted a suite of APQP4Wind tools to strengthen internal processes and improve project outcomes, including FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), Global 8D, and PPAP (Production Part Approval Process).

Having implemented key APQP4Wind tools to drive consistency across its global projects, RES saw the APQP4Wind Company Membership as the natural next step. Martin Bardle, Global HSQE Director at RES, says:

Our APQP4Wind Company Membership empowers RES to elevate our quality standards, ensuring excellence in every project. By integrating APQP4Wind principles, we drive a RES Quality mindset that fosters innovation, reliability, and sustainability in the renewable energy sector.
Martin Bardle, Global HSQE Director at RES

Embedding quality through APQP4Wind

RES’s decision to join APQP4Wind as a Company Member reflects a broader commitment to advancing quality maturity in the wind industry. As the sector scales rapidly to meet global climate goals, RES sees collaboration and shared learning as critical drivers for industry-wide progress. As an APQP4Wind Company Member, they get access to valuable tools, such as the APQP4Wind Assessment Tool, as well as peer-to-peer knowledge exchange through events and best-practice guidelines.

Having access to the APQP4Wind Assessment Tool, networking events, and industry standards and guidelines enables us to streamline processes, reduce time, and enhance overall efficiency, supporting our commitment to delivering high-quality renewable energy solutions,” explains Bardle.

Looking ahead, RES plans to deepen its commitment by certifying more internal APQP4Wind specialists in 2025. This investment underlines the company’s ambition to embed quality practices at every level of the organisation, empowering its teams to apply APQP4Wind frameworks consistently across global projects. As an active contributor to the APQP4Wind Community, RES is committed not only to learning but also to sharing insights that help shape the future of quality in the wind industry.
