Meet our Member: Liebherr - Components technologies AG
Global company with local delivery options
The Liebherr Group is a family-run technology company with a highly diversified product portfolio, founded in Kirchdorf an der Iller in Southern Germany in 1949. It aims to provide high-quality and user-oriented products and services for various applications.
One of its ten product segments is Liebherr-Components Technologies AG, which specializes in the development, design, and manufacture of high-performance components in mechanical, hydraulic, as well as electric drive and control technology.
Liebherr-Components has indulged in the wind industry since 1996, providing main-, pitch- and yaw bearings, yaw drives, pitch drives, and pitch cylinders for wind turbines. Liebherr-Components can offer a global footprint as a partner with local delivery options for wind OEMs with manufacturing locations in Germany, Mexico, India, Brazil, and China.
"Liebherr-Components excels through its in-house experience in designing and manufacturing components, all of which have stood the test of time in most rough environments," states Andreas Kiebler, head of sales wind energy at Liebherr-Components.
APQP4Wind aligns processes and requirements
The wind industry has been applying components by Liebherr since the mid-nineties, and Liebherr-Components has been supporting and driving innovation in the industry. On the forefront is the introduction of roller bearings for pitch applications based on Liebherr's vast experience in other sectors. On top of this, Liebherr has introduced further new developments, such as wind-specific bearing grease and lubrication-free bearing.
In 2019, Liebherr-Components started with the implementation of APQP4Wind by training the first employees. Now, four years later, all the employees worldwide, who are directly involved in the qualification of wind components, have completed APQP4Wind Training and are actively using the defined processes and tools. Additionally, the APQP4Wind framework is being utilized to qualify new components or transfer production locations for components.
Andreas Kiebler says about the benefits of implementing APQP4Wind: "In the past, each wind customer had specific requirements that demanded adaptations of Liebherr's standards. APQP4Wind standardizes these requirements, and thus helps align the processes across customers worldwide."
Standardization increases effectiveness and efficiency
Liebherr-Components became an APQP4Wind Company Member early in 2022, as it saw the benefits of an industry-wide standard for certifying components. As a standard designed for the whole industry, APQP4Wind allows Liebherr to streamline its systems and processes to the common requirements and increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the qualification and delivery of components.
As an APQP4Wind Company Member, Liebherr-Components looks forward to being updated on the newest developments in the quality standards and actively contributing to the development of the APQP4Wind Community.
