AkzoNobel is a global company specializing in paints and coatings, providing products for various industries and consumers. Founded in 1994 through the merger of Akzo NV from the Netherlands and Nobel Industries from Sweden, its history dates back to the 17th century, making it one of the oldest continuously operating companies in the world.

AkzoNobel supplies sustainable and innovative paints and coatings that aim to reduce environmental impact and improve the efficiency and lifespan of its products. The company operates in over 150 countries worldwide, serving customers with products tailored to meet local demands and standards. AkzoNobel is committed to science-based targets and takes genuine action to address globally relevant challenges and protect future generations.

In the wind industry, AkzoNobel prides itself on the quality of its International® product range, delivering global solutions for all aspects of wind energy assets, from specialized blade coatings utilizing RELEST® products, to heavy-duty, hard-wearing Interzone® products for mono piles and transition pieces.

Strengthening quality assurance through APQP4Wind

AkzoNobel started with the implementation of APQP4Wind in early 2023. Currently, eight employees across four manufacturing sites have completed the training courses. The APQP4Wind framework is used at all sites where wind blade products are manufactured; it is also factored into the training requirements for key staff working in this business area.

The structured and detailed methodology found in APQP4Wind enables clarity of formulation, development, performance, and quality assurance of wind blade products for our customers. It helps in enhancing our focus on quality and reliability in product development and production.

The company chose to become an official company member of APQP4Wind in mid-2023 to further strengthen its relationships with customers and contribute to the wind energy industry.

“We have a long history of supplying coatings to support the traditional carbon-based energy industries. We work closely with customers to ensure we deliver successful projects that can stand the test of time. It is a natural progression to join an organization that is a key player in the renewable energy business, and help us achieve even higher customer satisfaction,” explains Dr Michael Buhaenko, Global Commercial Quality Manager at AkzoNobel.
